On Tuesday, both Germany and Portugal secured seats on the UN Security Council, thus increasing the EU’s representation on the Council. Reason enough for the NYTimes to publish an article bemoaning the EU’s “waning influence.”
For the details on just how massively over-represented the EU will now be in the Security Council, see my new post on weeklystandard.com here.
(Incidentally, the author of the NYTimes article in question is the paper’s Berlin-based Europe correspondent Judy Dempsey. For further evidence of Dempsey’s remarkable talent for getting things not just wrong, but indeed diametrically so, see my earlier report here.)
