Mamoun Darkazanli: Qaeda Financier Remains a Free Man in Germany

Posted by John Rosenthal

Last month, the Domestic Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag announced that it will hold inquiries into an alleged CIA plan to kill the Hamburg resident Mamoun Darkazanli. But as the German journalist Stefan Frank points out, the Bundestag might do better to hold hearings into the activities of the supposedly intended “victim” himself. For the list of the persons with whom Darkazanli has had financial ties reads like a veritable “Who’s Who of al-Qaeda.” Nonetheless, German authorities have not only refused to bring charges against him, they have likewise prevented him from being brought to trial abroad.
